Story: "This monster six spike was taken by Ronnie Staggs on the Laurel Hill WMA in October of 2002. was drizzling rain that morning and was the first hunt for Ronnie and his son David at Laurel Hill. They were hunting approximately 600 yards apart. About an hour after daylight David heard a shot, but thought it was too distant to be his dad, but merely seconds later Ronnie came over the two way radio and told David he had just shot a large buck. David immediately came down from his stand and started toward his dad, the whole time keeping in contact with him to see if he had located the buck yet. As he got within 100 yards of where he knew his dad was he stopped and asked if he had found blood hair etc. Ronnie was disgusted thinking since he found no sign of blood or hair that he had missed the buck. David then continued towards his dad. As he entered a small opening in the woods he spotted the high racked six spike laying there dead. He radioed his dad, who was at the spot within seconds."
