Story: "After getting off to a fairly rocky start on opening morning (climbing my tree twice and waving off another hunter), I finally got settled in my stand about 6:00 AM. I got nestled in and was full of anticipation as I enjoyed the sound of acorns hitting the ground below me. Just at first light, I though I heard a step but could not really see anything. I decided to grunt a little bit as it got lighter. After a few grunts, I lightly rubbed my rattle bag against my leg for about 30 seconds. Amazingly, not 30 seconds later, this buck was coming towards my tree at 15 yards. He stopped to grab an acorn and I stood to get ready for the shot. He took a couple more steps and quartered slightly away at ten yards. I put my pin low in his chest and released. He buck-jumped at the shot and ran about 30 yards and stopped. When his legs started to go, he ran another ten yards or so and piled up. It was awesome watching him go down less than 50 yards away. It was a very short but exciting hunt. I shot him at 7:00 AM. He was a basic 8 point with a broken drop tine coming off the main beam."
