Story: It was opening morning of the 2008 rifle season and 16 degrees when we got out of the truck. At around 8:45 a.m. I could hear the buck crunching through the leaves. Then he appeared on the other side of a creekbed just behind the tree line that followed the creekbed. I tried to get a shot but never had a clean kill shot so I let him walk. I just sat there thinking "man that was a good buck and I couldnt get a shot on him". 10 minutes later I started scoping the area with my binoculars. I spotted something though a brush pile down by the creekbed that looked like an eye of a deer. Then it moved and all I could see was a big rack sticking out on each side of a tree he was laying behind. "Man what a rack". He layed there for 25 minutes without moving to give me a shot. All of the sudden he turned and looked toward me. I eased my head around and saw two does coming my way. I turned to look at the buck and didnt move. All of the sudden I hear one of the does blow and I knew I was busted. The big buck stood up and watched them run off and I thought it was over. He stood there for a minute then walked to the side about twenty yards. I had an opening through some tree brush about the size of the bottom of a pie pan. I squeezed off the trigger and he jumped and went twenty yards and fell. Man what a hunt. That was the worst I have ever shook for those 25 minutes.
