Story: "I had seen this buck the morning of November 20 but failed to get a shot. I was on stand early that afternoon when I saw a buck enter the far side of the field. I wasn't sure if it was this 9 Point, because I had seen a good 8 Point there the afternoon before. The field he was in is a 130 acre river bottom field, so you often see deer without getting a shot. At about 400 yards, I could tell through my binoculars that it was the 9 Point because of the sticker point on his left side. However, he then started moving away from me, and I lost sight of him behind a small strip of trees which is the only cover in the field. With very little light left, I got down from my stand and at the base of the tree, I scanned the field with my binoculars. I was lucky to pick out the body of a deer headed my way. I couldn't tell it was a buck until he was about 50 yards away from me. I got my rifle ready and kept him in the scope, but the light was so dim I could not see my crosshairs. He kept coming and then stopped suddenly. I was afraid he had detected me, so I just centered him in the scope and squeezed off an uncertain shot. I saw the muzzle flash and then everything seemed black. I jumped up and ran towards where he had been standing. Then I saw the white of his underside, so I approached cautiously and began to shake when I realized I finally had him. I had seen this buck 5 times previously this summer and fall, but the openness of the area he lived in made too difficult to get close. The little hunter holding him is Jake Pimental my cousin, who knows how to make a good picture."
