Story: "I took off work on a Friday to go hunting and ended up having to go alone because everyone else had to work. I was mainly hunting Does where I was at because that is usually all we see in this spot. I had walked by a scrape in the dark that morning. About 9:15 three Does came down the ridge to my right but never offered a shot. About 15 minutes later this deer and another came in from below and to the left. I could tell this was a good deer but didn't know he was this big. He was in a thicket and needed a couple of steps to be in the clear where I felt comfortable taking a shot. He left about 15 minutes later in the direction from where he came. About 11:30 I heard something coming from where he left. He came back to the same spot and then left again. About 1:15 I heard him coming back again. He got to the same spot once again. I had already decided to bring my treestand and set it up closer to where he was at the next morning. About 1:30 I heard him coming for the 4th time. This time he took two more steps and turned to go back. I felt comfortable with the shot, took a good rest and fired. When the smoke cleared I could see that I hit him but he wasn't down. I walked down nearer and finished him off. This was the first time I actually saw the size of his rack. This is one time that every decision I made was the right one. But had I known he was this big, I probably wouldn't have let him walk away the first time."
