Hello Gents, been awhile since I've posted on here. I am not experienced in what to look for with aging deer. Would appreciate your alls input. Both of these bucks, are deer that made it through the 15-16 season, and these pictures are from December - Jan.

Thanks for the response... I will be very interested to see how they grow this summer. Trail cams going out in mid-June..These deer are in Ky but less then a mile from the TN line. I hunt both states and will be running trail cams on the KY side and Tn side probably 4 miles apart as the crow flies. I'm seeing better deer on our bordering Property in Tn, I assume as a result of the 2 buck rule. I will be interested to see both herds and I will post photos.

Glad to hear you are seeing better now on the TN side, but doubt what you're currently seeing has much to do with TN's 2-buck limit which went into effect last year (too soon for much to result, and it's only one cog on a big wheel).

That's very neat that you have the opportunity to hunt both sides of the State line in essentially the same spot (or at least could be the same localized deer showing up on either side).

Have you been seeing "just a little" or more "a lot" of difference between the KY side vs. the TN side?

As for where I hunt in Tn, it has gotten a lot better, most notably in the past 2 or 3 years. I had wrongfully thought the 2 buck limit has been in effect for awhile. (A limit has no effect on me because I'm only going to take 1 buck regardless, also, I spend 70% of my time hunting Kentucky, where I reside, so I don't follow Tn hunting as closely as I should). With all that said, I have been very impressed with the development of bucks I've seen the last few years in Tn. I think hunting pressure on my area has reduced greatly. One of the farms that joins me is no longer under deer lease so that's minus two Hunter's shooting basket 6's all season. Another neighbor has become more serious in time and runs a camera hoping to bag a mature buck. These factors alone have made a big difference. I now spend more and more time each year hunting Tn, whereas, 5 - 7 years ago it was a complete afterthought due to lack of mature bucks.

The biggest thing I've learned by observing the above first hand is this: the bucks on my Tn ground can get just as big as they do over on my Ky ground. I've come to truly appreciate the importance of and how big a factor age and maturity is. Because hunting pressure has decreased in my area, I'm seeing the benefits of an aged herd on the Tn property.

Great link and post LBL. Hunting border Tn/Ky counties I've often thought about the topic of that post. I'm on the phone right know for he weekend but I will be chiming in when I get back home Monday. Thanks for the age estimate.
