Really hard to age this time of year and all good pics but no profile angles. I'm gonna say 3.5 based on antler mass, body size and depth of chest. He doesn't look and older and maybe only 2.5. Gonna be a great buck though this fall.

x 2

I'd say about 50/50 whether he's 2 1/2 or 3 1/2.
Need to see some late October pics! :)
Do believe should he survive this fall's hunting, he'll be a shore nuff hoss in another year.

My guess would be a extraordinary 2 1/2 yr old. The small chest and long legs make me think that but he can change a lot in the next 6 to 8 weeks. It's very safe to say he is no older than 3 1/2. Either way that is really good deer and would be hard to pass. Good luck , shoot straight!

Body screams 2.5, but it is a summer time pic so I think he is 3.5. If so, you will be able to more accurately predict his age at the end of October/ first of November, assuming you can get picks of him then. IMO, he is the poster child of the buck everyone wants to make it to 5.5 with the hopes of being 160"+, while 95% of deer hunters won't let him walk out of their sight. Not slamming anyone, just pointing that out. Great buck and best of luck with him this fall if you decide to pursue him.

Totally agree, except I'd change that "everyone" so "some" :)
But he would definitely get a pass from me if I thought he were 3 1/2 or younger.

You are correct that it is relatively rare for a top-end antlered 2 1/2 to NOT get killed by a human hunter, while the same hunters eagerly will let average-antlered 2 1/2's walk all day.

Interesting responses. I'm going to keep this thread going for the rest of the season on this particular buck. Something tells me he's going to hang around...

Do you have any pics from last year you believe to be this same buck?

I do...I have 3 years of history with this buck I noticed him first in August of 2014 and have followed him closely since. This year I expected him to go mid 140's but the farm didn't get planted in row crops and it seems to have really stunted the antler growth...ill post my history with him later tonight

2.5 yo

If he covered his antlers EVERYONE would say 2.5 yo. This buck has more potential for a tn buck than I have seen in a long time, great young buck.

That pretty much rules out 2 1/2.
But is it possible this buck in the pics above could be a DIFFERENT buck, not the one you've been seeing in the past?
The buck in the above pics certainly does not appear to be a 4 1/2, which is implied with "3 years of history".

I agree.
But realize this is summertime, much harder to age by looks than fall time.
They are often a year older than they "look" during summer.

Guaranteed same buck.
Just goes to show how difficult it is to accurately age bucks by looking at summertime pics.
It's damn near impossible to be honest. I have had a hell of a time doing it the last 4 years

well as promised here are the first pictures of this buck I ever got back in August of 2014. I figured him to be a 2.5yo with solid potential. As I watched him that year I began to really take a special interest with this buck and for good reason...

I really hoped that he would make it through the season and stick around for me to have a look at him @ 3.5... I got some good confirmation of that with this late December pic in 2014 where I noticed the buck was blind in his left eye...he earned the nickname "lefty" based on that...a few months after this picture we were turkey hunting this farm on opening day and I found his matching sheds 50ft apart...this really had me excited knowing he mad it through the season alive and was in the area for a good while... wee measured his 2.5yo sheds in at 127" giving him a 17" spread
