What a wild morning it was today. Started on a massive group of birds that had at least 10 longboards and another half dozen jakes along with who knows how many hens. After an hour on them the hens broke and literally trotted to me, with the gobblers in tow. Problem was they got to me so fast and got so close that I got picked off by a gen at my boot. That spoiled that rendezvous.
Went to an area where another bird had gobbled and as I was easing down anloggong cut the bird cut me off down the mountain. The woods are so open I had no choice but to drop right there and hope for the best. In 5 minutes the bird was under the hill from me at less then 5 yards but a mound of dirt kept me from seeing him. Finally he peeked out and I leveled him at 3 steps.
