Patterned my Mossberg 835 yesterday. Here are some pics what do you guys think.

Mossberg 835
Indian Creek choke
Winchester Longbeards 3" #5 1 7/8 ounce of shot
Burris Fastfire 3 red dot

One is at 20 yards I made some adjustments to the right on the scope after the 20 yard shot and then there is a pic from 45. I tried #6 in the same payload etc and out ton30 yards they were great but opened up a lot at 40. Was only getting 5 pellets in the head at 40. But I have a Mossberg 535 that typically shoots them very good so I will pattern that one next week.

Not sure why they are sideways, the bottom picture with the two targets are at twenty. The top Target is the #6 bottom is the #5. I liked the #6 because it was a little more forgiving and they were great at 30 also but then for whatever reason they just opened up a lot after that. I know the #5 are really tight but like I said I am using a red dot so that makes me a lot more comfortable shooting tighter patterns. I really wanted to try some TSS but it is hard for me to justify $50.00 for five shells when I am getting these patterns.

My advice is to fully understand lead #6 killing effectiveness at distances beyond 35-40 yards. Just because they look the best on paper (more little pellets) does not mean they are the best shell for hunting. I always hunted with lead #4s, but that was many moons ago. Lead #5s are a good compromise between the two. Best of luck with your choice.

Yeah I am going with the #5 they just held a better pattern out to 40 yards. Just wanted to give the #6 a try. And I agree I think #5 is a good compromise between pellet count, density and velocity. Best of luck to you this year and stay safe

I agree that TSS shell are pricey..but you are looking at a shot that will kill using #8/9 at a longer distance.. Not saying you can kill at 100 yards but the performance of TSS is great. Shooting TSS at turkeys is not like dove hunting ,where 1 shot makes a difference, gladly give $6/8 a shot for a clean kill
