Blue Water, I actually patterned some of those shells yesterday simply because the fps is a little faster than tss. The results were not good unless you could stick the barrel to the head of a bird. Tss is the way to go.

If the pattern will stay together, those 8's will kill but you'll run out of pattern quick. I've patterned the same shells. I killed a Turkey last year with Winchester 3/4 ounce 7.5 lead at 20 yards and that will be my close range barrel on my double this year

I've shot a lot of lead loads through my 410 and the Winchester beats them all.

Why in the hell would any turkey hunter go to the woods with that shell in his gun? Just to say you killed one with the most minimal load possible. That is a perfect recipe for losing a bird or injuring him and causing suffering. It is our duty as ethical hunters to do all we can to kill quickly and humanely while minimizing chances of non lethal wounds. With so many deadly ammo choices out there why take a chance on 3/4 ounce of lead 7.5?? If money is an issue I can assure you the guys on this board will gladly pitch in and buy you some capable ammo. If you need help all you have to do is ask.

Why the hell would you shoot off your opinion without knowing the facts?

I fell and hit my head and ended up with a brain bleed. Up until this fall a 410 was my pretty limit much my limit on recoil. I'd get a bad headache

I chose the 3/4 ounce lead over Federal TSS because it just done better

Furthermore I have personally done it and witnessed it and that is the wounding of close turkeys with the fringe of a really tight pattern. Seen the Primos boys do it more than once on their videos

It's funny how nobody questions ethics about bow Hunting turkeys

This is 3/4 ounce of 7.5 at 25 yards. That's a kill all day every day

FWIW, I routinely question the ethics of bow hunting turkeys. But I've got no problem with someone shooting turkeys in the head with a .410 and dove loads inside 20 yards.

Question is not whether a full choked 410 shotgun will kill Turkeys, but rather, does the person pulling the trigger have the "restraint" to keep there shots under 25 steps. 7.5's, 8's, or 9's lead will kill them just as dead as any other shotgun all day long at that range, in the hands of the right person. I would say that 98% of today's so called Turkey Hunters do not have that degree of restraint, with any shotgun for that matter.

I'm sorry to hear about your fall and physical limitations. Maybe lead dove loads shot better in your gun than TSS. Hard to believe but I'll play along. That still doesn't justify coming on a public forum and advocating to others the "benefits" of a 3/4 ounce load of 7.5 lead. That is just asinine. Maybe you have the restraint to keep your shots under 20 yards, but nobody else does. Even if you never take a shot over 20 yards and never lose a bird, people following this advice WILL lose birds.

Who said anything about tight patterns? A lot of people that shoot TSS or whatever purposely shoot a more open choke to avoid misses like you are talking about. That has nothing to do with shooting a very minimal shell and posting about its benefits.

As for bow hunting turkeys, I do question the ethics of it. I think many turkeys are fed to the coyotes when shot with a bow then lost after they fly or run a long way. Can skilled archers that practice a lot effectively kill turkeys with a bow? Absolutely! But most folks can't. But that is a topic for another day and just muddies the waters here.

I never saw UJ advocating the benefits of the load. He just stated that he killed a turkey with them last year. And he clearly has a really good reason for using them. Attacking him for sharing that info really isn't warranted.

Just dug up this picture I had put on here in 2017. This was Winchester 11/16 ounce of 7.5. That load is a lot easier to find than the 3/4 ounce

I bet more turkeys are crippled and lost with guys trying 70 and 80 yard shots with tss than guys trying 30 yard shots with 7.5 lead.

I stated it in my first post because I knew it was coming. It just proves what I've always said: people will come out of the woodwork on the internet to argue against good common sense. We've gone from the original topic to bowhunting turkeys to tight patterns to 80 yard shots. I guess when you know your argument is ridiculous, you divert the discussion. Let's look at context here: the original poster asked about taking his 6 year old turkey hunting with a .410. He is obviously looking for good feedback. Is it really sensible to tell him to load his son's gun with a dove load, then if a bird comes in strutting and gobbling at 30 yards to tell the kid "you can't shoot him because Daddy brought the most minimal ammunition he could find and we are limited to 20 yards"??? Of course not! That would be IDIOTIC! I trust the original poster has more sense than some on this thread and will make the right choice on ammo. Think I might go drift some cutbait in the river for 40 pound cats with my ultralight and 4 pound test. Makes about as much sense.

A six year old shooting at Turkeys for the first time has no business shooting past 25yrds, regardless of gun or load. Allowing such a shot for a first time shooter is what would be completely idiotic ;) Isn't it time for you to start fishing by now.

Pretty awesome that you know the capable range of every 6 year old in the world. What about 26 yards? Is that a guaranteed miss?

Since you like to keep tabs on me, put this in your journal: I fish year round to some extent. Much more from the first of May to late October, but year round at some level. I guess the great turkey guru frowns on fishing??
