Got the 2nd one for the season early this morning. I got up to a high point early and was listening. I heard this one down low and really thought it was across a creek so I didn't head immediately after it. However, I didn't hear another bird so I made my way down to him and to my surprise he was actually roosted on my side, I think my ears are getting bad or something! Anyway, I set up on a log road that was going right to where he was roosted. He flew down, I called maybe twice, he closed 100 yards in just a few minutes and walked exactly up the logging road to my gun barrel. One of those easy hunts. I killed him near this old homeplace so that's where I took the picture. Ended up being 22 pounds, 10 inch beard, 1 inch spurs.

Congrats.

I have a hard time pinpointing which side of a creek a bird might be. I think some of it is if he's on the other side but facing me, it sounds louder than my side, but facing away.

Surprised be was the only one gobbling but didnt have hens.

Congrats! An easy hunt ending on an early morn punched tag is nice once in a while to rest up the remainder of the day.... esp if you have been at it for 3 or 4 weeks already :)
