Bit the dust.
Had a great hunt yesterday morning. Called a lone hen in right at daylight, then heard a gobble way off in the distance. Gave my homemade box call a workout and he answered every time, finally caught sight of him up on the ridge in full strut but he had his harem with him and wouldn't come closer.
The evening hunt worked out better, I had a pretty good idea where he was roosting and set up accordingly. Sure enough, around 6:00 pm [Eastern time] here they came. This time he didn't hesitate when I called and he came right in to range.
I've killed my fare share of Turkeys but this is the first one i've ever killed that didn't flop around after the shot. He never twitched!!!
