You've got to be kidding me. It's time to get organized groups into action. Not that's there's many turkeys left there to hunt but this is insane. There is no risk especially for local people going in there to hunt. Most everyone I know will just go anyway but regular law abiding folks will have to either break the law or not go. Absolutely ridiculous. I don't see where they have given hunters any lee way in this.

Like I mentioned on Facebook, I get both sides.

$20 they close LBL soon. That place is packed, along with Cross Creeks.

This is three rural counties with very few virus cases. I can see keeping non-local people away. There aren't enough people in the 3 counties to get crowded. I didn't even see a person in the BSF today. I can walk from one of my farms into the place. And keep in mind, all WMA's remain open. As do the local ATV riding areas. This will do nothing but crowd people into the remaining public land.

They have clarified that "residents" Only means park volunteers that were already residing within the park. I know several local folks with private inholdings within the park. It's going to get nasty if they close those roads or otherwise attempt to block access to those private properties.

Remember when the Obama administration shut down the national monuments and parks? I remember veterans that went to visit DC moving the barricades to the side and going in anyways. Also heard that in Townsend at the Y, folks were walking right by the park ranger and right around the gate, ranger didn't stop them. It's your land and YOU fund it through your taxes. Something is really fishy with the land closures, really fishy. 2+2 is not equaling 4, absolutely no common since. Shutting down tightly spaced campgrounds I get, but thousands of acres? Hogwash!

I feel your pain, they closed Fort Campbell 2 weeks ago which is the only place I have to hunt. Just retired from the Army and live in Clarksville don't have any private land. It is heartbreaking first year in 5 I will been in the U.S for turkey season and was looking forward to it a lot. My family is originally from east Tennessee but that is about a three hour drive for me. It makes no sense to me either. But when I go on base all the soldiers are still running together in the morning and conducting training right on top of each other. Looks like I will be fishing a lot this year.

Think about the number of people all across this country that travel to hunt. Think about catman and the other you tubers, traveling, stopping for fuel, etc.
Its not about being alone in the woods it's about getting to the woods. Specifically those that travel a long distance.
It also has something to resources. Last thing you need is a search and rescue on some lost in the backcountry.

Regardless, it's sucks.

I waited a few days to make this post just to see if the Park Service would take a similar action but they have not. So.... the same office that manages The BSF also manages Obed Wild and Scenic River. Obed is much much smaller with more congestion around kayaking, rafting, and hiking. BUT guess what, Obed remains open. This is total BS...
