Got a nice one yesterday morning...he gobbled at probably 150 yards out just as I was settling down(I don't get out early and am not a roost chaser) at about 7:20...let out a 4 note yelp series from my box call and he cut me off...ran another series to be sure...cut me off again..OK..he knows where I am..a hen starts yelping and comes up toward me...starts some excited clucks but not putts, circles around me and starts yelping again behind me...another hen? starts keekee and heads toward yelper...how good was that being between real hens and a gobbler!...made some soft purrs and yelps on a scratch box and got a gobble about 50 yards out...so he is coming...I never made another sound and he didn't either...in a few minutes saw his red head approaching...already in range...when he walked behind a brushy snag I raised the Benelli...he stepped out raised his head high...boom...knocked straight to ground...no flopping...wow a nice old bird...the oldest and largest one I've ever killed...thankful for all my blessings...25#...10.5" beard...1.5" and 1.25"(broken) spurs..
