Another Early Bird

I headed out to some public land early this morning, and got way back in there before first light. With the high winds, I headed for a deep canyon like holler to try to escape the wind. This one gobbled down in the very bottom, so I got down in there with it. I honestly got to close for the open hardwoods, I'm surprised it didn't see me from the tree. I saw him fly down and could hear spitting/drumming. His hen started yakking at me, I started mimicking her, and she came in to 15 yards or so. Once that happened, he came in on a string to her. Really short hunt for the amount of time it takes to get back in there. 20 pounds, 1 inch spurs, 10.5 inch beard.

Great hunt. Congrats.

I love ticking a hen off, and even better when she brings the gobbler with her.

You could always walk to the top of the other side, back down, then the top of your side, and repeat as many times as you wish to feel like you worked for him. :D !
