Hunted the good ole public land birds this morning. Got to the road at 5 and there was already a few guys parked and headed in. One group said they got there at 3. Little ridiculous, but the only advantage where they parked is it's easier walking in. So I headed to the bottoms and slugged my way about 400-500 yards through the muck and mud. Climbed up the bottom of a point off the ridge when I got there to listen. Had a gobbler in the swamps that gobbled and he was all I heard. Decided to go after the one in the bottom. He was about 200 yards from the bottom of the hill. Once I hit the bottom I snuck about 100 yards and sat down. He gobbled 3 times from when I was on top of the hill until I sat up. Once I sat up I made a few yelps on the mouth call and he never made a noise. I assumed he had a hen with him. About 10 minutes later I saw a bird fly down and I just sat tight not moving. Once the bird hit the ground I never saw him. Kept my head and gun facing that way not moving and about 10 minutes later 2 gobblers were sneaking towards me. Saw a beard on both that looked the same size. Waited for them to get behind a tree and they popped out at 30 yards. Shot the lead bird. Just sitting here enjoying the morning, once I get home and get measurements I will update. Definitely a 2 year old bird.

I thought I was gonna get No.#3 this morning but, don't know what happened. He gobbled with a owl hoot early. Flew down about 10 minutes later. I saw where he landed and waited a couple minutes and called a few yelps on my poplar glass slate. Nothing from him at all. I called a little every 10 minutes or so. I kept my ears and eyes peeled. To make a long story short, I sit there at least an hour with not a single peep out of him and never saw him either. I don't know. Some birds are like that.
