. . . . . in 3.5" because I'm glutton for punishment.
I suspect you'll soon reduce that load ---- way overkill for your style of hunting,
and the punishment of a 2.5 oz load is brutal compared to 2 oz and less.

I don't shoot past 30 yards.

Your kill pics will look better if the turkeys still have a head.

No reason to dislocate a shoulder.
How many of those did you shoot, Setterman? :P

Too many, blacked out at some point lol

Settled on 3" 2oz 9's out of factory full. Great pattern, just need a victim

Anyone considering the Indian creek .665...this is the pattern at 40 yards and that's not a wad hole that's shot. IMO that's an awful pattern and not worthy of hunting with.

Agree. That said, I spend a lot of my internet time on GobblerNation where turkey guns/ammo/patterns are the primary subject of discussion. I've looked at hundreds of shotgun patterns, and the IC .665 is a really common one. I've never seen a 40 yard pattern like that from any gun, choke, or load. That's an anomaly. Wad accidently loaded with no slits would be my guess, but could be some other fluke. But it ain't normal. Some guns throw really good patterns with that choke so everyone shouldn't write them off. But no question, that's not a suitable hunting pattern by any definition.

What shells are you using?

I suspect this is the problem, WHEN paired with IC .665. My guess is Federal TSS with FliteControl Flex wad.
Apex

The hideous rifle was their 8.5 ninja loads. The ST 9's in 3" is what patterned very well out of factory full.

Everything out of the IC .665 was stupidly tight. I'm not sure what that tube is good for, but turkey hunting is not it's strength

Interesting, no dealings/experience with any of APEX 12G & 20G loads. .665 means different things in different guns. I used an IC .665 for years in my Remington 870 23" bbl with 3.5" Magblends and it was a solid setup out to 45-50 yards. 20 and under you better hold right above the beard as you had a softball pattern going downrange. Glad you got it figured out and found a load/choke combo you like. That is the most important part. I'd try to stockpile several boxes of that exact shell so there is no guesswork and no more testing for years to come.

What ya take for it? I'd seriously like to experiment with it

The problem with Apex is that you got several
different guys loading their shells. So if you buy 3 boxes of a specific load they could of been loaded by 3 different people.
They used to put their initials and date on inside of box.

I agree with Roost that your pattern was likely a one time deal with a jacked up shell.

I'm using the IC .665 in a Weatherby pump and was pretty pleased with the TSS pattern. It whacked one this spring at about 35 yds that had a minimum of flopping.

But, for the hunting that you do, the factory full that you went to should be awesome!
