Came in town for Mother's day and decided to try to kill a bird. Saturday morning I got within 150 yards of them roosted. They gobbled a lot on roost but once they flew down they shut up. Best I could tell it was 2 gobblers, 2 jakes, and 2 hens. Had to get in the creek and move on them after fly down because they were feeding Away from me. Got set up again and they started moving towards where I first set up. Hopped in the creek again and made a move and decided to ease up and look in field. I came up perfect and they were at 30 yards. I took the one strutting around but could've shot either gobbler. He flopped in the field and got wet so made for a bad pic. 9.5" beard and 1 1/8" spurs.
This morning I slept in but thought I'll just go see if I can see one out here. Crossed creek and eased up in field and seen a gobbler and hen feeding. A bit later I seen 2 jakes in another field so closed the distance where I thought they'd come across the field. Sat an hour and couldn't see the gobbler or hen so decided to make a move. Hopped it creek and went to edge of field where I thought they'd be. Eased up out of creek and they were at 10 yards. The hen seen me and started putting then I spotted him and let him have it. Smaller weighing bird with 8.5" beard and 1" spurs. 2 good days of hunting for sure.
I love them coming in strutting but putting the sneak on them with no decoys makes for an exciting hunt too
