Just wanted to start this thread and get the conversation going. My season is starting in 2 months. I am going down to Georgia at the beginning of their season for a week. Does anyone else have any out of state hunts? Anyone get new guns, gear, calls etc.

I should draw a Georgia quota hunt. If not, I'll go to open GA public land like last year. Rather than going to IL like normal, going to try to go to a few new states. I plan on Indiana. I have applied for a Iowa tag with a priority point so I should get that, most expensive turkey tag ever. I have applied for a hunt in Wisconsin, not sure on my odds on that one but may go to Wisconsin anyway if I dont draw that location. I may find time to drive to KY as well. Last years season was really hard on the population with so many hunting due to closures. Will be interesting to see how that works out.

I'll probably hunt a week in Mississippi prior to the season opener here.

MS, FL, TX, MO, NE and SD

Busy spring for you man. Besides GA I may go to Indiana for a week, my.buddies family owns a farm in Southern Indiana. Maybe a trip to Alabama but we will see.

Over the past few months I have acquired a pretty nice collection of calls. Also got a new vest, an Alps Deception low profile blind.

I will go to Alabama the week before Tn opens! I am looking forward to turkey season, My favorite time of the year!

Start off in home state of MS. Hop over and get in some combat turkey hunting in AL and TN. Sure do miss the days when it just turkey hunting without the combat. Nothing like YouTubers ruining WMAs we hunt! Hence the 'combat' turkey hunting, because that is what it has turned into. It is quite the adrenaline rush though! Just think, one of those TN WMAs was an easy 4 bird limit for a good turkey hunter before one of our fellow forum members put it in the spotlight many years back...

But I digress.

Will make my 14th straight trek to MO. Will be hunting a NEW spot in Wisconsin because last spring was a circus thanks to ol' Pinhoti.

As for new states....Was planning to head to the northeast since my plans got cancelled for that trip last year due to COVID. But given the current political climate, that trip may get deterred again. If it does, may try to knock off North Carolina, the Virginias, Maryland.

My call collection so far. And at some point all of these will get hunted with. I got a bunch of them since I retired. So I need to get some of these in the woods this year.

I've lined up work to hunt 3 out of 4 of the opening days here in MS... learned real quick that the early bird gets the worm on south MS public land.

Supposed to go to Osceola County at end of March to a friend of a friends private orange Grove.

Then TN to my farms.

I would like to hit SD and NE as well, but is gling.to depend on Covid. Im expecting NE to be a complete $hitshow this year since NR licenses were suspended.

I have no desire to kill a slam, but I've always wanted to kill a true Merriam.

No desire to kill an Osceola, but can't pass up the opportunity to hunt private for free.

I've had my eye on the Deception Blind for a while but have yet to pull the trigger. Is it lightweight and portable? Easy set up? Could you fit 2 people in it? Thanks for any insight.

Starting things off on North GA public and then I'll just hunt around home for my second season here in the E TN mtns along with a few days hunting my home turf in the lowcountry of SC if time allows. Been reading the usual turkey literature since the new year began along with some new books that I've recently added to the collection. The trumpets, box calls, wingbones and diaphragms have all been getting some playing time daily. Can't get here fast enough!

TN will be my out of state trip. May sneak down to some places near the house I visited last year, or just take a trip to visit the family in east TN. Other than that hunt here on the farm in KY. I've been banking preference points for LBL so I may try and use those this season.
If our duck seasons continue to be as poor as they are it won't be long and I'll be taking far fewer duck trips and more turkey trips.

"good" Turkey Hunter would be proud of an "easy" 4 Gobbler limit

Personally don't know any "good" Turkey Hunters who would be proud of an "easy" 4 Gobbler limit. Plenty of sharp spurred Gobblers left on Public Ground each year, despite the googan army 😉

Maybe i'm not good then? I'll still get some TN birds in the few days I hunt. Just feel like I need kevlar now!
