Went down to Venice this week and went on a couple charters. Was hoping to get some big yellowfin but from what I heard they have gone deep. Was able to catch my first yellowfin (to small to keep) on a popper which was pretty cool. Actually caught 3. The mahi and 2 of the blackfin tuna were caught on poppers as well.
We landed a 160lb swordfish first day and a 200lber on second day. Was cool to see the boys reel in the first one as us old geezers sat back and critiqued lol. Hand cranking these monsters from 1500 ft down is pretty brutal. We called the first one stubby as he came up without a sword which was probably bitten off by a Mako.
We also got to see a 14ft mako swim around the boat and tried to hook him but it was not meant to be. It was a great trip and wished my boys could have done both days but am grateful they went first day.
The reason for the peace symbol on the swords is the charter Captain's name is Peace Marvel.
