Anyone seen predictions for the winter forecast in the South? I sure would like a dry warm winter. I know that's an oxymoron because if its warm in the winter it usually involves a significant rain event haha Love winter fishing when Kentucky Lake isnt pulling 300k in current. Could also help grass growth if the lake wouldn't rise 9 feet like it has the past 3-4 winters.

they released it yesterday. 40-50% above average temps and drier south and east of us. our part of the lake is in the above average precip band, which is fine. when the whole river system from east tenn to here is getting rain is when we have problems.

hopefully we have a drier jan-feb. i want to catch some more keeper jacks.

havent seen the 2022 trap net data or forecast yet. fingers crossed that we had good spawns this year.

lol if you want grass you can always plant some cheap annual rye in the pockets.

Yes. Being the last lake in the chain does cause problems. We become the dumping ground for all the water East and South of us.

All the persimmon seeds I have cracked open this year show spoons as well. This is from multiple elevations and locations also.

well above average so far. if it plays out like last year i would expect some colder temps and snow/ice early next year. i hope so, the water temps need to drop some before the spawns.

I just hope we dont get massive floods. Last spring I saw some grass in 3-4 different creeks on kentucky. I say grass, it was a strained here or there. Id like to see what can happen if we get a drier than normal winter.

Last yr and this yr were great spawns for crappie.Buddy sent me the info last week.

We'll know what kind of winter we had when we look at it about April.
Weather forecasting is the easiest job. Where else can you be wrong 75% of the time and get paid?

yeah ive been reading west ky fisheries surveys and reports the last few days. good for ky lake, gonna be mostly short fish on barkley. if i was gonna fish barkley, itd be for the 1 1/2 to 2 pound shellcrackers.

TWRA hasnt released a report since 2016. pitiful.

id probably wait until this summer to see. the reports run to march 31 of each year and since the mean spawn time is around april 28 for LMB and april 15 for SM it doesnt really tell much. they use the fall and spring data to make a conclusion. as of now, 2014 and 2015 was a bust. 2016-2018 were good spawns. 2019 was a bad spawn and 2020 was a good spawn. the 2022 fishing forecast should be out soon and reflect fall catch rates.
