I aim halfway between the head and wattles unless they are within 15y... then I aim right for the wattles.

Right under his chin but on his neck of course. I used to center at the wattles but always ended up with a breast full of pellets.

I am with Andy on this one!
Aim at the head with the bottom of my pattern, zero breast pellets and plenty in the head and neck
Figured these guys would give some a frame of reference.

Probably an inch or two under the ear hole. Wattle shots leave a lot of shot in the breast and also more of a chance of shoot beard.

Most of the time, I'd say my aim point is his throat.
I eat my birds, don't want any pellets in the breast.
The trick is timing the shot,
and often making him stick his head up higher.
Don't be impatient & rush it,
and if it doesn't present, let that one walk.
No clear high-probability head/neck shot, the bird gets to come play another day.

I have read posts about "shot in the breast" for eons. Of course it happens from time to time, but I guess I have been lucky over the last 30 years and not had it happen enough to consider it an issue. It never crosses my mind when I am hunting. Back in the day, when it seemed to happen more often, I did not mind fishing out random larger diameter #4 lead pellets. Find the bruise, or the hole with feather partially buried, and go to town. I eat all of my breasts as well.

The closer he is, the lower I aim with the lowest point being at the feathers just under the wattles. I usually put it right on his neck or wattles but If he's tight I'm aiming at feathers below the wattles. I've shot over enough at close yardages to prefer loosing a bit off the top of the breast meat than to lose the whole bird.

Years ago I missed one completely at less than 5 yards,If I have to let one get super close to me I body shoot it because dead turkey and I only eat the breast anyway!
Take the legs next time. I promise you won't be sorry you did.

How do you cook the legs,boil until tender and make shredded bar b que or turkey salad?I'm thinking I might make bar b que!
Pretty much any way is good. My new favorite is to use the slow cooker then make them into taco meat.
