For some reason I was thinking about this the other day.
I remember @Dbllunger posted that your buddy got a hook in his hand and put an emergency kit in your boat.
You had some kind of cutter with a cam action or something that made them alot stronger.
Just wondering what they were.
I'm thinking I need a pair.
Thanks !

Yes my buddy got caught in the forearm and I do keep an emergency kit in the boat but it doesn't have anything to cut hooks with. I have suture stuff, local anesthetic, syringes and those type of things. It would be a good idea to have something like that but it wasn't me.

Oh ok thank ya sir. :D

Knipex makes good stuff. I've used them to cut hooks out of a fish or two, and a buddy has done some creative surgical removal of big-a$$ hooks with them. Highly recommend.

Barbless hooks have saved me a ton of times from trips to the ER. I don't understand why more people are reluctant to use them. I am sure that I've lost some fish over the years due to them. But also landed thousands more including tarpon and other that throw hooks often

Or maybe I'm a giant girl who is terrified of barbed hooks and is just wishful thinking it doesn't hurt my catch rates 😂

For what it's worth, I thought I was in a bad bind one time when a flopping catfish ran a 5/0 Daiichi circle hook into my finger. I had to push it through and as noted here, none of the pliars I had on board were strong enough to cut the 5/0 Daiichi. Then, however, I realized, I could easily just use the pliars to squeeze the hook barb down completely flat and back the hook out, no problem. Easy peasy.

Just something to remember if you find yourself in that fix without an expensive pair of cutters on board.
