Ethan was supposed to with me today, but he bailed last minute to go out with friends instead. Should have gone.

I fished solo and caught at least 125 trout, unfortunately, the majority were shorts. Managed to boat 10 keepers and a 26in red that would have been turned back, but was gill hooked. Had 3 episodes where it was a fish every cast for 20 to 25 fish. Best speck was 19.5. He came from the tide line in the photo.

Trout came from 3 to 5ft water, but nearby 10 to 15ft depths.

Managed to fish the entire day with the same jig, never lost a single bait. Covered a lot of ground trying to find a school of keepers, but they were scattered. Burned about a gallon of fuel. Decent box of fish for fish tacos tomorrow!

Saw 2 other boats the whole day, but heard a few running the main bayous.

WOW! They after shrimp?
They were busting a few tiny (1 to 2 in shrimp), but mostly feeding on glass minnows.

I REALLY should have thrown topwater, as it was calm and overcast all day, and the trout had moved out of the deep holes. But I just hate trying to get 2 sets of treble hooks out of a trout who shake as bad as they do, plus I think you injure the shorts a lot more than with a jig. No point releasing fish if they just die.

Looks like a great time. Perfect water for a Carolina Skiff!
I need the skiff for the spring and fall when the trout are out front!!!

I don't believe there is any boat made for fishing the backwater better than the little Gheenoe! Looking at my tracks, I hit 12 or 13 spots and covered about 12.5 miles. Burned about 3/4 gallon of gas! The greenies would be proud of me!

I totally agree about the hooks. Trout shake more than any fish I have ever gone after.

One of my fishing friends just picked up a used one and stuck a Suzuki one it. Great backwater "boat" on a calm day.

Great report. Trout bite is on in Beaufort as well
