my fat fingers dont work like they used to. how do you guys tie fly line to leader without a loop. is there an easier way to do this? I've searched a bunch of stuff, just thought id see how the average guy does it, lol

Without a loop there is a device to do a " nail knot". Takes a little practice but not hard. I'm so old I used to do a true needle knot. Loop to loop has taken over for this reason.

I use tippet rings. For leader to tippet. I also use furled leaders, which have loop connectors. If you are going from a leader to a line with no loop you are pretty much going to want to use a nail not.

These seem good, I have a couple others but I like gadgets so may order this one too.

I bought these some time back when my hands started giving me issues, work good but pretty much just do one thing.

ive seen those plastic tools a hundred times and never knew what the heck it was!!!!
Yea, I was actually looking for a hook remover I used to have. Similar to this but it was just the pencil looking part, no lanyard or round part. Was great for panfish which will swallow that hook more often than not. I ended up with the metal one below, which also has a hook tieing piece on it.

Nail knot
Yup, back in the day we used to keep our plastic coffee stirrer to do that knot. I had somehow ended up with some hooks with no eye from Japan so had to learn this knot. Similar to the Snell knot except smoother.

they used to sell what was basically a hook eye on the end of a tiny barbed shaft. we just slid that up into the end of the fly line. haven't seen them for years, went to a tiny loop myself...
