I almost missed this deer standing back in the shadows when I blew through the images on the card yesterday. Later when I slowed down I realized there was a deer in the picture and when I zoomed in I realized it was a buck. That guy stayed in the shadow because I believe he spotted the camera across the clearing and that was it for him. If you zoom in you'll see he's a pretty awesome buck. I've got a pretty good summer Bachelor group going on including two halfway decent eight pointers but nothing like this one. I realize he's not likely to be around still in November but it sure would be great. Really great book for Sequatchie County.

I doubt the camera kept him away. It was probably the bright hot sun. And I wouldn't count him out for fall. I've always heard bucks you have in summer will leave in fall, but in my experience it's not a very solid rule. I've killed many bucks in fall that spent the summer on property. In fact both of my TN bucks last year came from the same bachelor group that spent all summer on the property. Killed one in October and one in November. So don't count him out just yet.

Honestly, not a "rule" at all, just a possibility. Some bucks summer in the same range as they spend their fall. Some summer MILES away from where they spend their fall months.
