What do you think caused this?

Wish I had a better pic but it's the best I have. What do you think happened to this guy? Can't even really figure out what's going on with his left side.

Probably competition from there being more mature bucks, fighting last year or prior.

Looks like he broke the main beam while it was growing, but it healed and tried to continue growing in a normal fashion.

Almost looks like it's a completely separate beam detached from the other. If that is the case, it was a completely broken pedicle from fighting or incomplete shedding causing the pedicle to split in the past.

That's what I was wondering. It does look like it is a separate beam. Maybe I'll get some better pics of him soon.
