The old " you can catch but no keep " thing 🤔
It did bring back them redfish and many other species ,but it would be nice to put a few of them on ice
Them drums are all good fighters .
Congrats again

Oooooohhhhhweeee
I can taste them golden brown filets of goodness already 😋😋😋
Great job !!!!
The bulls really aren't good to eat. I went as a guest with a Cajun and he made me keep a 36in red I caught. The meat is actually a little tough, but they are serviceable in a courtbullion (or 'cuybuyion' as they call it).

The smaller the better when it comes to eating reds, but there really isn't that much meat on an 18in er. My favorite to eat are the 20 to 21in reds.

And you can only keep one over their ( LA ) slot…

And agree the big ones are not flavorful

Actually that changed in June 2024. You can no longer keep a redfish over 27in in Louisiana. Limit dropped to 4 per person (was 5). Population has crashed in many parts of the marsh due to overharvesting, but noone thinks going from a limit of 5 to 4 is going to help at all.

MS still allows one of the 3 fish limit to be above 27in. Makes me sad to see the charter captains posting pics of their clients with big bulls.

Hadn't heard the change in LA. WHAT A sad things the " guides " are too greedy and let them kill the bulls.

Our slot on reds is 15-23". Limit 2

Caught this 27" today. Released. Slam Shady We actually released 9 reds , all in the slot but chose not to kill …… today.

But I kept 10 trout however. Limit 10 per person , must be over 14". That Greek dish and trout tacos are too good

Hard to beat trout tacos! I like to sprinkle mine with ancho chili powder, smoked paprika, and cumin... then not quite blackened in a hot cast iron skillet, then squeeze a bit of lime on them as they go on the tortillias
Like that idea!

Wife says no cumin…. It smells like an armpit!!! Ha'

One of the big problems in LA is the bowfishing. The bowfishing guide I was talking to volunteered that the guides are starting to discuss among themselves what they need to do to limit harvest. A bowfishing rig will go into the ponds, and if the shooters are any good, will clean the reds out of a pond in short order.
My cajun fishing buddy won't bother fishing ponds anymore unless they are a LONG way from the charter docks and don't get bowfished often.

Agree with this completely... between the bowfishing of reds and nonstop gigging of flounder (compounded by the loss as by catch from commercial shrimps and pogey boats) it's a wonder those 2 species are not extinct

One day I would to catch one, I just never get the opportunity to fish saltwater.
Get you a guide and go to southern Louisiana redfishing for a couple days. I went to Venice last fall and in my opinion freshwater fishing fails in comparison to saltwater. You will not regret it.

what he said ! i freelanced to Calcaseiu and caught more reds, trout, and flounder than i wanted to clean. used the same lures i use here for walleye, smallmouth etc. we did have a good map of the lake to stare at for a couple of days before we went... ;)
