I was finally able to turn the table on a longbeard this morning. I hunted last weekend and had hens bust me both times and still should have killed one. Hunted Tuesday and Thursday mornings for about an hour and a half before work and they gave me the slip but should have killed one Thursday. Well this morning it finally came to be. I know where they roost and got in there tight. When he gobbled I was within 75 yards of him. At 6:03 a hen flew down which shocked me because it had been around 6:20 - 6:30 when they were flying down. Problem is she was 75 yards away and I thought he'd follow her but at 6:10 he pitched down 45 yards away. I kept thinking he'd start toward her which would bring him closer but he just stood there spitting, drumming, & strutting. A few minutes later several more hens and a jake dropped down right in front of me and he started making his way over. He stopped 38 yards away and came out of strut and the Mossberg 835 sent a load of 3 1/2" Winchester Supreme #5's toward his head. I looked at my watch and it was 6:15. It rarely happens like that but I'll take it when it does.

20 lbs. 8 oz.
10 1/2" beard
3/4" spurs
