My birds normally show up on my place around the middle to latter part of February but not this year. Don't know if it's due to the late spring or abnormally cold winter but I didn't hear my first gobble til last night. He gobbled twice after he flew up to roost. Eased in there early this morning and got set up. He gobbled a few times from the limb but was still several hundred yards out in the bottom. Then I heard the hens. They were between me and the gobbler. Not an ideal situation but after they flew down all was quiet. I did some soft calling and about 30 minutes later here he comes followed by 3 hens. And at 15 yards, the Federal Heavyweight 7's were overkill. 19.5 lbs., 9.5" beard, 7/8" spurs. Not a limbhanger by any means but a longbeard nonetheless.

Thanks guys! And yes, Mike, I can now go to LBL next week and not have to wonder if I shoulda stayed home to hunt. The monkey is off my back.

Way to go bud. I bet that Heavyweight made a mess at 15 yards.

BTW did you get out and scout LBL?

He looked like Pinhead. And I'm going up Sunday afternoon and hopefully go out Monday morning to listen.
