Killed my first turkey of the year last tuesday. Had 5 longbeards come to my hen decoy . Called them across a 100 yd field to my position on a fence row. I was lying prone behind the fence. Difficult way to shoot, and hard for my ole eyes to focus. So I let them keep coming. finally at 5 yds, I decided to shoot in self defense. Had to let one separate from the group. What a show at close range, strutting and gobbling. The unlucky bird weighed 20 lbs, 10 inch beard, and 3/4 in spurs. Now I am going to try help my neighbor's teenager get his # 2 bird of his career. Called in a nice bird for him last year. Can't wait for some fried turkey.
