My little womans wanting to use my 12 gauge to take her first turkey. Problem is I dont think she can handel the recoil from a high brass shell. What do you think the effective range of low brass 6's would be? Do you think she could cleanly kill a gobbler at 30 yards?

well to be honest but i dont really know. You could shoot it at paper and see what it looks like. I would think it would be fine at 30yds but that is just a guess. I know a bunch of old timers that killed plenty back in the day with low brass 6 shot.

the 835 may be the issue with the small shell and recoil. Do you have anyone close that has an auto 12 or 20 you can use? that may help a good bit.

If you live closer id be happy to lend you my 3500 auto and it has a recoil reducer in it so 2 3/4 shells are NOTHING shooting from it.

Thanks for the offer. I borrowed a 20 gauge single shot with a fixed full choke but the patterns were awful and she couldnt take the recoil. I think she can handle the dove loads pretty good. I just don't want to cripple a bird. I am looking for a auto 20 but my budget is beat right now lol.

I honestly do She didnt like the recoil of a 3inch 20 gauge :D
Do like I did with my son and let her practice with 2 3/4" shells and then sneak 3" in for the hunt. He dirt rolled his first last spring and never said a word.
I am seriously thinking about slipping a high brass 6 in there. But she's such a little woman

Just shoot some 2 3/4" 6s like fiochi golden pheasant. And I believe hevi makes a 2 3/4" shell.

3" hevi 13, 1 5/8 ounce at 1090fps should be lighter recoil than most 2 3/4 turkey loads. I shoot 2 3/4 kent with 1 5/8 ounce at 1285fps (might be 1225, I know it's over 1200). And as mentioned if you could find some of the 2 3/4 hevi 13, it would be better, but it's hard to find. Inside of 30 yards, I think target loads would be fine though. Just remember, an increase in amount of shot and/or velocity will increase recoil.

Timber, i am pretty sure i have a few 2 3/4 Winchester Xtended range shot i can get to you. I am not sure it would get there in time but if you are interested i will look for them and send you a few to use. I dont remember the shot ounces but it is less then what Hevi13 would be but still a heavier then lead shot.

Let her practice with the lightest loads you can find. "Help" her load her gun at turkey time with a load that will do the job. I can about guarantee that she will feel little if any recoil when she shoots her turkey.

This is what I would do. I can guarantee you when she has a bird in front of her she won't know the difference in a .410 and a 10 gauge. Also, so far she has tried two of the hardest kicking guns out there. If you can, try to get your hands on a pump 20 at the least and if possible some sort of auto.
