12pt nocturnal

Have his area narrowed down to 30 to 40 acres. The funnel I hunt, I have only hunted when the wind is perfect. It's my family's farm so there is no outside pressure. Uncertain of age but I know I will shoot given the right opportunity. It's just frustrating with weekly pictures all summer and then gone. Not big by beig stupid I guess...

you better rethink that 30-40 acres ideal. by next week when that first hot doe comes in he may be two miles away he will not stay on those acres he is on right now. good luck i hope he slips up for you

As hunters, we have the misconception that mature bucks, for various reasons, "go" nocturnal. This isn't true. Mature bucks "ARE" nocturnal. Sometimes they just "go" during the daylight for various reasons.

I disagree with that. I feel the older a deer gets the closer he stays to his core area regardless of the rut. Now I believe they make short excursions or trips but that they don't travel 2-3 miles and stay gone fro days or weeks. I believe they return after 24-48hrs to there core area. And if there are enoughh does around then they don't have to go far. I killed a 9pt back in 2009 that was 4yrs old. I had seen that buck and hadc trail camera photos quite often of him. And he was a staple around my farm and I saw him at least 2-3 times a week including during the rut. The only year I. Had limited sightings was the year of the EHD. And I do believe he traveled a lot that year.. just my 2 cents. Good luck killing that buck!!

Wow! What a deer,I agree though, somewhere during daylight he gets up and moves around..but that's the million dollar question..where.

I had pics of a huge 8 in august, and havent been able to catch up to him. Either hunting the wrong area or the deer is on to me. Best bet is hunt a funnel like your saying, and catch him cruising in the next 3 weeks. Good luck.
