I started hunting turkey 12years ago with my dad, not having anybody teach us made us probably the worst turkey hunters out there.

I had to work over the weekend so Monday morning had me and dad out early. We were hunting a different spot than usual so we decided to get into the woods instead of hunting fields. When we got in there we herd a hen clucking so dad sat down where we were and I walked 15 or so yards to his left and set down. I started calling and mainly practicing trying to mimic the hen. Then I hear a gobble to my 7 o'clock position. I cluck a few more times and see a turkey step out at 40yards. I had forgot my binocs and only had the 5x on my rangefinder. I'm looking but a bush had his chest blocked. Then he took a step and fanned out. GOBBLER! I dropped the range finder raised my shotgun and fired dropping him. After that dad said I had called the hen into 25yards of him. Very exciting and I enjoyed it more than most of the deerhunts I've been on.

He had a 8.5in beard shot with a Mossberg 500 12ga winchester#4s
