i saw 3 toms late yesterday evening from the yard and figured they would roost real close. i got there real early and walked in without a light. i set a full strutt jake out and sat down in the edge of a powerline field.
the powerline is 3/4 the way up the hill and runs around the hillside. little did i know i sat right under the birds. at daybreak they started gobbling only 50 yards above me on the uphill side of the field.
they pitched out of the tree on to the ground right under the tree they were in. i didn't even have to call at all because soon as they saw the jake they came running down the hill into the field. they all looked about the same size so i just shot the first one that offered a good shot at 25 yards.
19 lbs.
10" beard
7/8" spurs

i put the cell phone on 10 second delay to take a pic and i would run around, pick the bird up and try to get a good pic. i was having a hard time but finally got it done!
