Got off work at 5 and made it to my place at 5:50. Got dressed and headed in. Look in the field next to mine and see a tom strutting with what looked like other male birds. Couldn't take too long looking, because I didn't want them to see me. Back tracked and circled further into my property. I got set up and called, knowing if there were hens I probably would not get an answer. They were about 175 yds away from me. I just sat silent and was about to call again as 15 minutes had passed and I decided to look one more times with the binos to make sure they weren't right there and sure enough I see a hen, then another, then a third. well at first I thought they were gonna skirt as they decided not to come through the big hole in the fence and started down the fence line. At this point they are 75-80 yds. I called light and waited. about 30 seconds later 4 hens were in my field. They walked up to within 25 yds and were just bugging and fed past me a bit but still within 35 yds. I am wondering where the tom is and had only seen 3-5 birds and I knew I saw 3 red heads, so now I am confused. I wait and see 3 more hens come in and then I see a red head. I look and watch him come in and it is a Jake and there is another with him. I'm freaking out, because I have 9 turkeys within 35-40 yds of me. Finally Mr. show boat comes through and struts the whole way in. I let him get to 25 yds or so and cluck with my mouth, nothing. Say "hey tom", nothing. Say it again, nothing, say it a 3rd time and he starts to lift his head up and got it about 1/2 way up and stopped. He was broadside to me and I have scope, so I got on his head and he dropped like rock. I don't think he flopped or kicked. The other birds literally just stood there, wondering what happened, until I came out of the trees, then they were out of there. It was 6:25 and I was packing up to go home.

No hunt is complete unless you show up for the photo shoot in Minion slippers...

9 3/4" beard
1 3/16" spurs
didn't weigh him as I don't have a scale handy, but he probably weighed 18-19 lbs. he was light.

Congrats BC, and thanks for sharing.

No love/shout out for the Dawkins Plastic Pot Stoned Aluminum? :)

After I posted and thought I should have mentioned it, but I was tired. Some of you guys are amazing at how you can see a pic and know what call it is. Some are easier if you zoom, but there are no markings on that pot and yet you knew it was a Plastic Dawkins stoned aluminum.

I really like that call. You don't need hardly any pressure to run it and it can be real quiet or if you want to it can be really loud.
