What is a good affordable 20 gauge for turkey hunting?

I have two different 20 gauge turkey guns. One is the Mossberg SA 20 turkey thug edition it is the more expensive of the two. The other is the Maverick 88 that I bought at academy,it is a youth model. The Maverick is a good gun and pattern is great . I bought the SA 20 because of less kick for when my son goes with me.I have killed birds with both and no longer carry a 12 at all. The federal heavyweight# 7 is a great shell with either.

If money is an object get a Remington 870 Compact. Put a Carlsons .575 extended choke in it and shoot Federal Heavyweight #7's.

The Maverick was around 200. It will shoot and the gobblers don't like it! I use the Carlson's choke in my SA 20 but in the Maverick I use a primos tightwad, that is just what I pattern it with first. I agree with the others the Carlson's tube is hard to beat it will flat throw the patterns. I bet the Maverick would shoot with the Carlson's great but I already had it patterned.

Going to get the Maverick this week hopefully... I have a Mossberg 535 Turkey Thug that I love. But wanna see what all the talk about the 20 is.

I'm building a Remington 870 compact this season. The gun sells for $289 at Walmart.

Hummmmmm didn't know that

I have two dedicated 20 GA turkey guns:

Remington 870 express compact, black synthetic, with adjustable length of pull (13"-14"). The other is a limited production special purpose model with a fixed 14" LOP. They both fit the bill for me as I need the full size length of pull (14") because I have long arms.

Unless they have changed something, you have to get the black synthetic model to get the adjustable LOP.

I'd get the 870 over the Maverick if I was you.

^^^^^^THIS!

Here's a pattern from my son's 870 youth. He killed a turkey at 30 yards last year, and it never flopped. I'm thinking very hard about building one myself.
