2014 is shaping up to be a terrible season for me. Other than the bird I killed a week ago, everything is bizarre this year.

My lease birds have vanished, that was a kick in the man-stones.

The honey hole at AEDC is now covered up with hunters, I had 4 gobbling Sunday morning and when first couple hit the ground they went the other direction and got shot at, or killed by somebody that came in from the other direction.

Friday I got access to a new place that has INSANE turkey sign, they claimed the birds pay no attention to them as they work their small farm, you know where this is going, hunted several hours near the supposed roost area, never saw or heard a bird.

What a difference a year makes, last year I could do no wrong, had crazy fun hunts near every time I hit the woods.
The fish are starting to call my name....loudly!

I have a spot that is exactly like this. These birds gobble very little, with no gobbling many days. But, they are there. Makes for tough hunting.

Don't wuss out :D !

I feel your pain but it could be much worse. I didn't kill a bird last year going around 30 of the days of the season. First year I haven't got a bird in 6-7 years. So far this year is shaping up last year. I would be tickled with one under my belt even if it was a 2 year old. I'm still chasing them hard so just hang in there and it will turn around at some point. Things are a good bit behind this year.

Some years it is the same for me. So far this year it has been hit or miss. either I see birds and get one, or see nothing. I have managed 3 so far.

I know this, if you stick with it, you will probably do good as it gets later into April. I always do for some reason. However if you start fishing, you will not kill any more turkey's until next year and that is a long time to wait.....

These birds have never been hunted, this place is 66 acres and the surrounding property is about 160 acres, none of the landowners hunt or allowed it in the past.
I can say I was BLOWN away I didn't get a single reply all evening.

Hang tough, it sounds like it can only get better. If its any comfort they're being bizarre where I hunt, one day out of five there are birds gobbling everywhere then nothing when they hit the ground, others days there's only one or two but they gobble until one is dead, the next day there's no gobbling period.

Strange year and the roller coaster weather is most certainly not helping.

If there is sign everywhere, but no gobbling and you're not constantly bumping hens, seeing one hen here and there doesn't count, then chances are their still balled up. Give it time and they will be ready to talk and die.

I've only stepped on the place last Friday. They are used to people roaming around, so even if they had seen us, from my experience they would have calmed down in the several hours I was there. More than anything it just proves the my luck, or bad luck, is following me around. LOL

its tough here to. we have one farm that has always had birds on it and I haven't seen or heard one bird on it so far. the other we have killed a few off of. but birds like setterman said are just crazy one day to the other. birds are henned up bad and some days they don't even act like its spring time. after tomorrow night cold weather coming in who knows what itll do to it.
