Well my deer season is over ( ate tag sandwich by the way) so now it is time to start getting ready for some thunder chicken. Gonna start doing a little scouting while I am out hunting limb chicken. Also head down to the NWTF Convention in February. Wish you guys the best of luck this year.

Is anyone planning on hunting Fort Campbell this year? Pretty much do all my hunting there since I do not have access to private land.

I plan on it even though it appears it's gonna be tougher as a civilian to get in an area.

I talked to the Biologist and supposedly by turkey season they should have a new check-in system that doesn't freeze and have the hunting areas divided differently. Even though I am active duty I still had a lot of trouble this year with the system and wrote an ICE comment. So hopefully for everyone the system is more user friendly.

Saw 5 long beards in full strut this morning with about 20 hens. This 60 degree weather has them feeling frisky...

I'm going to give fort Campbell a try this year. If I can get up there and get the paper work done before season starts.

Yeah I think it will be a good season this year, I saw a substantial amount of turkeys during deer season. Last year was really rough on Fort Campbell. I think it was due to several factors. Couple of seasons of bad hatches and the four bird limit they had for awhile. We will see though, I have already been running some mouth calls because I need as much practice as possible lol.

Really I saw them in quite a few different areas this year especially in some areas off of Mabry Road. Sometimes I would see 15 to 20 at a time going to roost. PM me sometime Roost 1 and I will drop you some pins to where I saw them. Heck you are only allowed to kill two of them so I am not stingy.

Will do..... I can prolly guess where tho. I'm not saying there aren't any birds there, but they are definitely not the numbers some of us are used to...only 88 killed last spring. That's along ways from 400+....

Oh I agree with that, last year was really bad. I got skunked last year during turkey season. Just hoping that it has rebounded some with the low kill count and what appears to be a good hatch. Heck I am seeing them all over the place behind my house the other day I saw about thirty in ly neighbors field during the rainstorm we had here in Clarksville.

The process for hunting at the Fort has changed some over the years. One thing for sure they do not allow near as many people in an area for turkey hunting as they do for deer hunting. As a civilian it is very difficult to get any area for deer. I couldn't even imagine trying to get an area for turkey. I am guessing it would be extremely difficult!

Well not sure where you live but the first thing I would do is to create an Isportsman account. Just google search Fort Campbell Isportsman and it will pop up. Once you have completed the Isportsman registration you will need to go to the Outdoor Recreation building off of Lafayette Road and they will verify your account. Once this is done you can purchase a post permit, they are $60.00 for deer, turkey and small game combined or $35.00 each for just turkey or deer if you only want to hunt one or the other, they will want to see your hunting license and hunters safety card before they sell you the permit so make sure you bring those with you. On the same day you get your post permit you need to register any firearms you are going to be using to hunt with on Fort Campbell at Gate 4. You do not need to bring the actual guns themselves but will need to have the serial numbers for the guns. Afterwards you will use your Isportsman account to reserve a hunting area. Make sure you check the expiration date for your weapons registration. I know mine does not have one because I am active duty but I think if you are a civilian you have to renew it once a year. If I missed anything I am sure someone else will let you know. I would just say it will probably take you about two hours on post to get everything done. Wait until after February 28th to do it because that is when the post permits expire they are good from March 1st through February 28th the following year, there is no sense in getting one now and have to get another one before turkey season. I hope all this helps

Wow, didn't realize it was that low last year.

Sad to see Ft Campbell catching up to LBL, although "catching up" is not a good term in this case.

I feel you brother. No punched tags for me either. Maybe the Turkeys will cooperate.
