2024 Live from the stand

Beautiful crisp, clear, and fairly calm morning here. No deer seen yet. Squirrels are very active already.

49th consecutive opening day.
1990 in Dekalb Co. storms were coming, wind was howling and thunder was in the distance. 5:55 am a buck comes through the low gap i was in and runs right under me, its not hardly light but I see the curve of his rack as he turned his head up to look at me. I really cant see the sights very well but I shot, the fire coming out of that Winchester 30-30 was 3 feet long! I missed and I saw him skylighted as he crossed the ridge, nice 8pt. 20 min later a downpour started with lightning and everything.

Western Montgomery County. 31 turkeys flew down and I can hear 2 other flocks.

31 degrees when I climbed in the stand. Had a broke rack buck following a doe and gave me an easy shot but let him walk. He was broke on the right main beam just past the g2. Had 4 on the other side so assume he started as an 8 but a broke 6 now.

Just had a very close shot that may have been on the edge of my property if not on me. Close enough my wife text me asking if I shot. Guess when I get down i will be doing some walking and checking.

About a perfect morning, but so far i haven't seen squat.

I've seen 4 bucks and 4 does all within the last 30 mins. Biggest being a 125-130" 8 pt that showed up a few days ago. Had him at 40 yards. Also seen an above average 6 pt.

Activity here has been much better the last hour or so. Have seen several. Had a decent buck move through after a group of does about 45 minutes ago, but never had a clear opportunity.

More shots this morning than I have heard on an opener in a long time.

Sat til 11:00, went out and had some breakfast and back at it in a different spot. Brought the climber because I felt like I was missing deer just over the rise. As we get near the top there was already a tall rack buck and 3 does so they bolted. Not sure if it's the same one I saw last weekend but hoping he comes back. Views left and right.

Brought my son this afternoon. Hoping something decent gives him a shot.

Is that a tall, narrow single man? A member gave me one last year and it's real and super tall. Definitely the tallest ladder stand I have.

Back at it for the 2nd to last day of rifle. Not going to lie, I love it when rifle season is over. My dad sat here yesterday afternoon and seen a big one at the very far tree line. That's 505 yards and on my neighbor. Hoping he follows a doe over on me today.
