Haven't seen one lately, but on a related note I used to have a .243 Woodmaster and I wish I had never sold it.

Get a CVA Scout in .243. Very nice trigger. I just bought one for the kids in .300 Blk Out and running it suppressed. It's shooting 3/4" groups. I'm really impressed.

Just something to consider, you could get a youth bolt action .243 and just put one shell in it. As he got older he could add as needed.
That's what I was about to recommend. Some single shot rifles will kick like a mule. I HAD a single shot 7mm-08 and after a trip to the range. It got gone in a hurry cause it was brutal to shoot and I have no idea why but it was rough.

I started deer hunting with a .243... having shot 2 dozen calibers on deer... I would now say it's NOT the best choice for kids starting out.

Pros... low recoil, and plenty of energy out to 400y... and that's it.

Cons... crazy loud muzzle blast and small entry.

In my mind, the muzzle blast is WAY worse than the recoil to kids.

For new young hunters, I much prefer the 6.8 SPC or 300 blackout when shots are 100 and in... bigger wound channel, no recoil, and MUCH less muzzle blast than a .243.

JMO... but my kids had no problem filling tags with those 2 calibers when they were little

I had a 243 for my son. To much kick. Sold it after the first range session. Got him a savage 110 lightweight in 6.5 creedmoor. I know a lot of guys frown on it. But he's killed 10
Deer with it in 4 years. The furthest one has ran was 8 yards. Maybe rolled, not ran.

I actually hunt with it a lot when I'm not carrying my 308. I have a 7/08 single shot cva hunter. They are awesome rifles. Very very accurate and light. Easily to carry around the woods. Great gun for the price.
