Shot twice last night to function test, make case gauges with, and see where my scope is at. I'll fine tune as I shoot my pressure test loads. Preferred barrel blanks, 20" 1:7 twist with .150 freebore for the extra heavy 25 cal bullets. Alpha srp brass. H4350. Fed match 205 primers. Tikka action, trijicon credo scope. I know a few have been interested and I'll try to keep this thread updated as I move along.

Shot a ladder test. Little slower than I planned, but I'm just going by what I can find online. Was hoping to be on the 28-2900 range. I didn't hit pressure so may creep up. 40.5-43 grains in half grain increments, with the first shot of 40.5 being 6" low, and no chrony reading. Same POA and got a .75" group. Not bad.

I really thought I'd be in the 28-2900 range at 41.5. Thought I'd read guys having success there. Initial results being slower, I jumped to 42grains. Not a bad start, but I'll creep up and see what groups look like.

One thing I need to keep in mind is I'm using a 20" barrel. I'll not get the most velocity.

I have found that the H4350 powder is not one of the faster powders. I think you will be able to get the velocity up to what you were hoping for. I am getting more than 2600 in a 20" 6.5 CM.

That's good info to know. I've thought about trying one of the 6.5 match or staball powders along with the h4350. I've got test load up to 45 grains, but that case is full.

Shoot long slick bullets from a short action with less powder
Hes gonna end up about 8 or 9 grains less than my pet 25/06 load when its all said and done and the jury is still out on if he will break 3000fps or not, so again I ask WHY?

I guess because he can

Your 25-06 shoots 134's at 3k?

That's impressive, what the load?

I'm just shy of 3100 with 110s in my 25-06. Burning around 60 grains of powder. I'll be 45 grains or less, pushing a 134 around 2850, in a short action.

Read above ^. At the time, a 120 was as heavy as could be found in .25 cal. A 117 gr Sierra SBT, 52gr of IMR 4831 and a Fed 215 would give groups you carried around in your wallet.
Like I said, Im not knocking, just asking what the gain is over a 25/06.

25-06 with 117 Sierra at 3050 and the 25cm with a 134 at 2850

Drops basically the same to 600, drifts less, carries more energy with 15grs less powder and 200fps less velocity

The short action part is about as important to me as the difference between a navel orange and a tangelo. Lets suppose it ends up being 10 gr less powder than a 25/06. So for every 6 shots you gain a shot. Ok, but powder isnt THAT scarce yet.
Which brings me to my next hypothetical question: what will a 25/06 do with those latest, greatest 134gr pills? Could I not go to a slightly slower powder and equal or better the creedmoor ballistics? In the end, I think it all boils down to short action vs. long and moving the bolt and extra .75 or so isnt a big deal to me.

The 25/06 case is derived from the 30/06 case and the 30/06 is designed to shine with 165 to 180gr projectiles, so again I ask, why? LOL
