I went out to my brothers place again tonight. I'l say this in all my years of living in Middle TN I think Lebanon or at least parts of it have some of the highest turkey densities I've seen. I had my mouth call in and was ready to try some calling, but I wanted to get into the woods before I started. I thought about going up the hill, but had this gut feeling that I should head low down by the creek. He has trails cut through to ride horses and 4 wheeler's so I headed down to the horse pasture where I got the bird yesterday morning, and started down the trail. I made it 5 steps and saw 2 hens and two tail fans about 150 yds down the trail (its more like a road that is covered in grass). I circled back and ran up to another trail that runs parallel to the road they were on. I tried to find one cut through, but he had let it grow up. I finally got to another and thought about it as I headed down it, that this is going to put me right on top of them. I snuck down, because I was not sure where the trail would put me out and as I got down to the bottom where I could see the trail they were on, I indeed was right on top of them. I saw a hen run for it, then a tom come out of strut and start to run, so I cut twice on the call and he stopped and looked at me and I hit him at 20 yds and he was finished.
he was not the heaviest bird I've shot, but I think he may be the oldest.
19.5 lbs
9.25" beard (half of it was rotted)
one spur is weird (really wide) 7/8"
the other is normal right at 1 1/4"
Sorry for the poor pic, I was alone.
