Closed out the year with a bang! Me and a buddy had been watching a flock of birds in a cattle field and decided to set up a pop up blind, pretty boy and a hen. Around 0800 a solid two year came strolling in and my buddy poured the coals to him.
Fast forward an hour and we saw a big strutter a few hundred yards away. We gave him a few yelps and the hens came close. We watched this bird breed over 8 hens, took over an hour and he never came out of strut! Finally, we had a fresh hen come to our left, and the bred hens came to her. The gobbler, all the while watching the pretty boy started making his route. He got to within fifty yards and started rubbing his spurs. Drumming and strutting the whole way. Sooooooooooo hard not to take him then. We were catching it all on video so we wanted to get as much footage as we could. Finally, he got really tight and I took him out. Solid 4-5 year old bird. 12 inch beard, 22.5 lbs and right at 1.5 spur! I always said I would never mount a turkey but, I gave in (hes at the taxidermist).
Best hunt of my life!
