I lost my mom in December at a young age, and it's been tough. She smiled down on me this morning as I got on an easy one for my last tag.

I heard this bird gobble a little after 9 this morning, and he was going away from me. I couldn't get in front of him so I'd have to call him back. I got settled, called, and he hammered. Set there a few minutes, called again, he was getting closer but sounded like he was gonna come above me. I thought he might go around me and me have to circle him. I called again a few minutes later, and he blew my hat off directly above at about 50 yards from me just over a rise. I quickly spun that direction, and in just a few seconds he came sneaking over the rise looking for me. At 40 yards he stopped, ran his head up, and got a load of longbeards. I had my hands on him at 9:30 and didn't have to rush make church on time. Thank you Lord and Mom for a wonderful season!

I did feel guilty because my son wasn't with me since this was an easy one. I thought we had his 2nd tag punched yesterday morning as we were set up between two gobbling birds on the roost. We played the game but lost. We struck another one later that would gobble but headed away. We couldn't circle him and assume he had hens. We've got one more weekend to try to get him another one.

Gz! Amazing just how difficult a bird can be to work, and then the same bird is willing to just fall into your lap on a different occasion. That is probably the single- most interesting thing I have discovered about turkeys- not only that they have different personalities, but their own individual personalities can change so much from day to day.

Congrats man. How's the foot/ankle holding up?

Mother's Day sucks for me also, even though it's been 14 years.

Yep, I like the ones that play hard to get, but the easy ones are nice too.

It's doing pretty good. The last surgery is helping. It still hurts and not 100% but going to physical therapy and gaining movement. It's not hindering me much climbing hills.
