4 types of turkey hunters

Funny article , spot on for this place.

I'm definitely the Sage guy, except not old enough to look like him or remember complete restoration, although I do remember some stocking.

The performer types scare way more than they kill, no matter what they think or admit. (This is what I would think of as a googan in Cowman's world haha)

The Go-getter in this article is mis-leading. I myself am a go getter. I have no problems going through swamps or creeks or navigating mountains and hollows to find the gobbler I hear. I just don't use a fan, I think it's cheating.

The camper is too much like deer hunting deer that aren't nocturnal. And also un sporting in the fact that you know that turkey will come to your foodplot with decoys, because he cannot go at night like a deer.
If I cannot find anything or I think the birds aren't gobbling, I will wait around and relax in an area that I can hear well so If one does gobble I can go.

I start the morning like the sage, minus the years of experience. But after a day or two of the birds beating my butt, I may become the go getter. I'm not usually much of a performer, I carry very few calls and don't practice as much as I should. I have most of my luck using yelps and clucks to call, and hard cutting to locate.

One thing I can not do is camp on a field, it seems terribly boring and I like to save that patience for deer hunting, since big bucks don't announce their presence from 2 hollers away.

Oh and they did get one thing wrong... A wingbone yelper does not sound like crap!

I'm a camper sense I can't tell directions of sounds due to being deaf in one ear, so I just camp out and wait. Tried the go-getter but after 15-20 minutes of walking I'll realize I've been walking in the wrong direction.

I am developing a little bit of sage in me, but I too don't have the years of experience. I am a go getter, but I don't use fans and hardly use a decoy. I have bush whacked my fair share, but try to call them in now.

And #5........The one with every conceivable locator call....Owl hooter, crow call, donkey bray, coyote howler, woodpecker screamer, hawk screamer, goose honker, and several more that some use...Most of these guys keep using these calls while trying to approach a gobbler. LBL is famous for this type of hunter. :rotf:

Omg those drive me crazy. Even when they are near a bird gobbling every breath on the roost they're still owl hooting with every breath right back. Makes no sense

I like those guys, they usually leave early very dejected. Had this very problem last year on public land. I sat patiently until the googans left and it wasn't long I got a bird to fire up. He came in very cautious but he went for a ride...

Just saying... I hunted around some sloughs that held water. There were several nests of wood ducks and every time they'd come flying through calling the turkeys would sound off... so I tried it and it worked under those conditions. Just thought I'd add another locator call to their arsenal, lol.

Yep they normally don't stay long and I wait em out. 99 out of 100 times they don't shoot and it's birds they should have killed. Still drives me nuts lol. I don't use locator calls I just let nature run it's coarse but locators help me keep track of other hunters

One good thing about the googans, they will always let you know where they are, to the point of being comical :)

I watched a guy on chuck swan this morning lock his truck in 4 wheel drive and DROVE out a hardwood ridge to the end weaving his way around. He hooted, nothing answered and he hauled arse off to parts unknown

Classic googan move. :) I'll be there maneuvering around them next week.

I'm hoping they talk a little more today. 5 birds checked in yesterday. Feeling pretty good about my odds this morning since we found a few late yesterday
