I could have sworn there was a thread about the TSS ammo for 410's but I can't find anything now.

I am ignorant on all of it.

Are there different loads of TSS or what?
What would you get to turkey hunt with a 410?

Disclaimer:
Not for me, a friend wants his son to hunt with a 410 this year and I assumed the TSS would be the way to go?

Cheapest route would probably be a Stevens 301 410 and shoot federal tss#9. You may have to buy the Browning tss's as the Federal's have been sold out in most places.

Ruger, i'm not much more in the know than you on it, if any. But if he is going to shoot a 410, then TSS is the ONLY way to go to I believe. I don't think anything else would be sufficient for a quick clean kill. I could be wrong but I do read a lot.

Unless you're willing to limit shots to ~ 20 yards and in, TSS 9s or smaller is the only adequate load for turkey hunting with a .410. A handful of companies make them now. Most loads are around 13/16 oz. IMO, 9.5s or 10s are ideal for a .410, but Apex is the only company that uses 9.5s to my knowledge. Most are 9s unless you hand load.

It may be tough to find any in stock this time of year. Final Flight is the only place close to you that may have them locally. But if you can't find any, give me shout. I load them for myself, and I would be glad to make some for your friend if the dad doesn't think the kid is ready to handle a 20 gauge. I'm in Martin.

Yes, 410 TSS is the way to go. It's a long ways from you and not sure where your buddy is, but I saw on FB yesterday that Outdoor Junction in Cookeville just got the Federal TSS 410 back in stock. You may have a local store that did too if Outdoor Junction got them.
