.410 reloading

Plenty of advice.

Loading for a shotgun is a little different than for a centerfire.

There are moving parts in the press that have to match up. Meaning, what works for a 12 might work for a 16 but never a 20 or 410

If the reload manual calls for 7/8 ounce #9 lead and a size 6 filler you cannot use an ounce of lead and a #5 filler.

Following the rules is paramount. Do not substitute unless the manual says a jones #2 concatenator may be used in place of a #3 smith concatenator.

Read up on the process and please find someone who loads shotgun to help as you get going. Too late for Dove opener but if you went to a field where folks were shooting you would find more than one most likely.

There will positively be someone close to you who loads shotgun. Hit your local gun store and see who you can find. Look up company called Gamaliel, they do the MSSA shotgun support (or used to).

Join up with this website as it is the only other spot on the web worth a hoot. https://www.handloadersbench.com/ Plenty of shottie loaders there. Tell them 12Semi and MUP sent ya.

Best of luck and PM me if you get stuck.

Back when I shot competitive skeet, to be able to afford to shoot a lot, I reloaded everything except 410. Because of the small diameter, it is the most difficult to get good quality reloads. Unless you are going to be shooting a bunch of 410, I'd bite the bullet and buy what you like to shoot in case lots from online stores that offer free shipping.

I have reloaded tens of thousands of. 410

Winchester AA hull was my favorite hull

Winchester 296 powder, which I have plenty of and it's free if you want to make the drive over

Never use nothing but #9 shot, the larger shot will give you tons of grief trying to get it to drop through
The drop tube

Ain't nothing complicated with it. My only advice on 410 reloading is don't do it if you're thinking you will only load 6's or 7-1/2's. Like mentioned before, the tube to small to drop the larger sized shot. No amount of graphite on the planet will make it drop consistently. Ask me how I know. Hahaha. But if you loading 8's or 9's, have at it. It's worth it.

Just drive over and I will give you all the info needed to load the perfect shotshells.

From 1987 through 1998 I reloaded about 40,000 yearly when I was competition skeet shooting

A real easy procedure if you simply follow the cardinal rules

Will do. Probably get over there before I buy a loader so I actually have a clue what I need to get. Thanks Ray!
