Seen it done when it couldn't be found because of darkness or just didn't want to push and wounded deer and tracked it the next day.

Do you know if the buck's head was cut off at the time of recovery? Another way of asking - Did the hunter shoot, find and cut off the head?

OR

Is it a possibility the hunter found the deer a couple days after shooting it and then cut the head off? Due to the meat being bad.

I say this because I shot a buck Saturday morning and searched for 7 hours and couldn't find him. Going back again tomorrow and looking for buzzards and the deer. If I find him, I'll be thrilled. A bunch of different scenarios to consider. If I find him, obviously I'll just cut the head off and leave him. Tag him of course

This is totally understandable though. Hope you find him brother must be a massive racked buck .

Good point. Good luck finding yours. I had to do this with the one my wife shot in 2018. She tagged him and he is on the wall. Found one on my neighbor several years ago, that we were the only ones who had permission. I twisted the head off that one as well.

Deer hunting is a messy business. There are so many different scenarios that can take a perfectly beautiful animal and turn the situation into an ugly mess. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions until you politely talk to the other hunter. Then, if he hasn't broken any laws, leave it alone. We need to support each other as much as possible these days. Likely our best days of deer hunting are behind us all.
