Ive gotten myself into a tail spin over reloading. Am new to this and have got all the equipment except powder and primers.
My intent is to reload for practice and hunting.
I have a Ruger SuperBlackhawk with a 7.5 barrel and intend to hunt with Hornady 240 gr HP-XTP and practice with 240gr JHP.
I have hit many websites and have torn the Hornady Handbook of Reloading apart. I have not seen any conflicting data other than the 44 mag uses large pistol primers but have found a few threads that are reccomending winchester 296 powder and hodgdon 110 be used with magnum pistol primers.

Any advice, reccomended loads? Looking for good load that will shoot well through my gun.

I use to shoot pistol silhouette matches with a .44 magnum. I loaded 296 powder and magnum primers. I dont remember the load I used but I do remember using 296, CCI magnum primers, and 240gr bullets. The lighter bullets sometimes would not knock down the rams at 200 yds. A buddy I shot with used a .357 magnum and had trouble getting the rams to fall when hit.

I have used for a good many years, 22grs of 2400. NOTE:
The books now show this load to be 2grs over max.

I have a pair of 44 Ruger redhawks and use this load in them.

I always used large pistol primers, IMR 4227 powder, 14.4 gr of powder,300gr.hollow point.

I use this setup in the same exact gun as yours. It's a great combo, I bet I've shot 10,000 rounds of this setup thru my .44mag

YEP H110 and W296 are both good powders for heavy loads, use large magnum pritol primers they are the same diameter as the large rifle primers but have more juice..

Both my S&W revolver and my Marlin Lever gun love H110 and Accurate #9 when loaded with 240 plus bullets. Here is the finicky part though...the Marlin carbine likes .430 bullets and the S&W likes the .4295...go figure :(
